I am Amitai Etzioni. All of us are Amitai Etzionis. We fight for children. We fight to protect 'em from abuse: sexual or otherwise. We're global citizens. This world is our family: Nuclear and Extended. We strive for sincere faith and piety and beesech God. We follow different religions. We live in different nations. We speak different dialects and languages. We have different cultures and rituals. But we're righteous. We're Indians. We're Germans. We're Afhanis. We're Pakistanis. We're Nepalese. We're Brit. We're French. We're are relatives. We're friends. We're Tribal Warriors -- We're Poets -- We're Farmers -- We're Snake Charmers -- We're Righteous Slaves of God. We Fight Sorcercers. We fight magicians -- Drug Lords -- ad infinitum. Evil versus Good. Followers of Prophets against Followers of Satan. Tigers, Lions, against Hyneas and Mongrels. True Believers against diabolic Satanic Cults and their leaders.

However, I understand that we seem unable to find a better partner. However, every decent human being and nation must observe a line, one that separates the world of accommodations and compromise from non-negotiable core values to which one adheres, whatever the costs and consequences. If selling children to the rich and powerful for sexual slavery does not cross that line, what does? The president should inform our representatives in Afghanistan that although we shall continue to put up with much that we do not condone, there are limits to our accommodations. We shall neither finance nor protect a regime that refuses to act against large-scale sexual abuse of children. The opinions in this commentary are solely those of Amitai Etzioni.
